Scrolling Ticker Ring

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The scrolling ticker substrate is a ring suspended from the top of the hyperboloid tower. The ring will be made up of 3 6″ x 16 ft. sections of 1/8″ Masonite. Each section is made up of four pieces of 6″ x 8 ft. Masonite lapped together and secured by sets of 4 small bots and nuts ant each joint. The two layers of Masonite will be offset so that there is a 4 ft. single thickness tongue on each segment that gets bolted to the bottom single thickness on the next segment going around the circle. The data lines for each LED pixel strip will be joined at each segment joint and we’ll inject 12v power at each intersection as well. The ring will suspended from the helix by cords tied to the topmost shear lashings of the poles. We’ll see if six points of attachment are enough for the ring to keep it’s circular shape or if additional points of suspension are necessary.
